SYNOPSIS
Bhutan is set high in the Himalayas between India and China; where snow-capped mountains, verdant valleys, dense jungles and crystal-clear rivers combine with a calming ancient Buddhist culture. During this tour we visit the major historical and religious sites in Paro, Thimphu and Punakha; watch dawn break over the High Himalayas; perhaps ride a mule to the iconic Taksang monastery in its lofty position 900m above the Paro valley; visit Buddha point and have a bird’s eye view of the Thimphu valley; walk in the valley of the Black-neck Cranes and witness the unique Punakha Drupchen. Bhutan, home of the Peaceful Thunder Dragon, welcomes you.


ITINERARY

Day 1:
Delhi/Calcutta/Bangkok/Kathmandu – Paro Flights with Druk Air or Bhutan Airlines. Visit Paro Ta Dzong now the National Museum and Paro Dzong. Continue to Thimphu

Day 2:
Thimphu, an early morning drive to the site of the golden Buddha and enjoy a bird’s eye view of the valley below. Back in Thimphu we begin our cultural visits.

Day 3:
A morning visit to Thimphu Weekend market, lunch and continue our journey east to Punakha.

Day 4:
Punakha festival.

Day 5:
Punakha to Phobjikha-the valley of the globally endangered Black-necked Cranes

Day 6:
Phobjikha to Paro, driving through a dramatic landscape.

Day 7:
Paro, Taksang Monastery/Tigers Nest: approximately a 5 hrs walk or hire a mule! Afternoon visits to Kychu Lhakhang and the atmospheric ruins of Drugyel Dzong.

Day 8:
Exit Bhutan, Paro – Delhi/Calcutta/Bangkok/Kathmandu with Druk Air or Bhutan Airlines.
